Before you ask
How the offering is decided
There are no prices anywhere on this site, and there is no payment page. The offering — the dakṣiṇā — is discussed personally with Sri Kumar Gurukkal, as it traditionally is, and it is settled before the day so that nobody is working it out afterwards.
What shapes it is straightforward, and worth knowing before you write:
- Which ceremony, and its scope. A naming ceremony and a full wedding are different undertakings. So are a pooja and a homam, and so is a ceremony with several rites included.
- How long it runs, and how much preparation it takes. Some ceremonies need materials prepared and a sequence planned well in advance.
- Where it is held, and how far it is. A ceremony in Pleasanton and one in Sacramento are not the same day’s travel.
- What you are providing and what he is. The samagri list settles this, item by item.
- Your family’s own custom. Some families have a practice about this and it is respected.
Asking costs nothing, and a request is an enquiry, not a booking. If cost is a real constraint for your family, say so plainly when you write. It is a normal thing to say to a priest and it has never been a reason not to ask.
